The Lancaster Valley AVA is located in Lancaster and Chester counties of southeastern Pennsylvania, centered on the city of Lancaster. The wine region includes 225,000 acres (91,054 ha) in a valley that is roughly 30 miles (48 km) long and 12 miles (19 km) wide. The Lancaster Valley area is one of the most fertile agricultural areas in Pennsylvania, and features rich topsoil over limestone bedrock.
