$12 for a 5 pour tasting, and they’ll generously waive the tasting fee with 1 bottle purchase.
We’ve visited Poppaea several times and have always had great experiences. John, and his son Ben, are the most gracious hosts and love to discuss their wines with all visitors. The winery provides both indoor and outdoor seating, with beautiful views overlooking the vineyards, surrounding hills, and Mt. Woodson peak. They also offer a more private, shaded tasting area, which they call “The Island”. In addition, we have a picnic table located in our experimental vineyard block, which you are welcome to use. Also note, they are a dog friendly property. They don’t have food, but they did have complimentary crisps (potato chips) and you could purchase cheese. You’re also welcome to bring your own food to compliment your wine tasting experience.
WINES: Quality made, Italian varietals in an “Old World” style. Typically, the tastings include varietals such as Vermentino, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Primitivo (Zinfandel), Montepulciano, Barbera, and Sagrantino, with many from the estate vineyards.
Poppaea may be a little out of the way of most of the other Ramona wineries, but it’s so well worth the visit. I highly recommend.
