The Illinois wine industry has exploded in recent years. The state has two AVAs: the northwest corner is part of the massive Upper Mississippi River Valley AVA, which is shared with 3 other states; and the Shawnee Hills AVA, in the southern part of the state. There are also many wineries scattered between the two areas.
