  1. I like visiting tasting rooms like this one. It gives me an opportunity to taste several wineries in a a region without driving between them—it’s a good way to get a sense of the region. I wish they were more common.

    Although they are called “Taste of Sta Rita Hills,” they are actually located in Los Olivos— The Sta Rita Hills AVA is on the west (cooler) end of the Santa Ynez AVA; the Los Olivos AVA ins on the Eastern (warmer) end.

    Sta Rita Hills is predominantly Pinots & Chards, and their tasting menu reflected that.

    The tasting room is located on the Main Street of town, in a historic building. The interior is vert reminiscent of an old adobe—clay tile floor, whitewashed walls, fireplace at one end (thankfully, not in use on the 95° day we were there).

    The new-owner couple were running the room. They were gracious, knowledgeable and friendly. We had a nice conversation while we tasted.

    Took home a pinot gris and a pinot noir—both from Moretti.
