This was our second visit to Mayo. Since we enjoyed our experience, and the wines, so much the first time, we wanted to stop in again and try their new releases. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted by Rich, who welcomed us and started us off with a sparkling Blanc de Blanc which was dry, but refreshing. Like our first experience, it was midweek and there were only a couple of patrons, so we had some pretty exclusive attention from Rich.
We really enjoy Mayo’s small winery vibe and their wines, especially the reds, really fit our palate. They also have some very unique varietals for California, like the Chasselas Dore, a Swiss grape grown in Sonoma Valley. We were fortunate that we also got to try several others that were open, and Rich felt suited our palates. We left with 4 more bottles to add to our home cellar.
The tasting room is cozy, and they have a wonderful rustic patio, perfect for a casual afternoon picnic and tasting. Mayo Family Winery is a fun, relaxing stop, with very nice wines. I highly recommend you give them a visit when you’re in the area.
NOTE: They also have “The Reserve Room” in Kenwood, but I don’t have any specific details on that location, other than you can make reservations online.
