The Lake Wisconsin AVA is located in south central Wisconsin. The wine growing region borders both Lake Wisconsin and the Wisconsin River. Most vineyards in the area are planted at elevations between 800 feet (240 m) and 900 feet (270 m) above sea level. The area soils are gravel and sandy loam from glacial deposits. French hybrid grapes have had the most success in the Lake Wisconsin area.
